The Surrey Sound of Music was established in 2012 by Rachel Demetri and Emma Scales, after both discovering their passion for teaching. Having both taught for numerous years, they decided to combine their experience and expertise to form a unique music school aiming to deliver fun, enjoyable and instructive music tuition for all ages and abilities.

All lessons are given in the students own home where learning is in a comfortable and relaxed environment. The school’s aim is to provide tuition where the student can feel most at ease, making learning that extra bit more inspiring! The Surrey Sound of Music is based in Carshalton and travel to students within a 10 mile radius.

Some of the areas we travel to: Carshalton, Wallington, Cheam, Sutton, Epsom, Ewell, Reigate, Dorking & Croydon. This list is by no means exclusive! Do contact us if you live outside of these areas and are interested in having lessons.

Lessons are given in 30 minute, 45 minute or 1 hour lessons. However, 45 minute lessons minimum are strongly advised to achieve maximum development and progress. We offer a complimentary 30 minute taster lesson to all new students, with no obligation to commit.

The lessons offered by The Surrey Sound of Music provide students with the ability to grow in confidence and achieve goals. Performance opportunities are regularly provided throughout the academic year. Performance is a key part of being a musician and is always encouraged. The school believes it is important to develop creativity and enthusiasm in an aspiring setting, in front of family and friends.

The Surrey Sound of Music’s philosophy is to make learning music fun whilst gaining the confidence, skills, techniques and discipline required to become a musician. We teach music for graded exams, usually following the ABRSM exam board or just as a hobby!

In order to maintain a steady progress, reports are also provided at the end of term, or end of year. This gives an overview of achievements, development and future goals. If you require any further information, or have any enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

All staff members at The Surrey Sound of Music hold full CRB disclosures.

‘The skilled teaching staff are fun, engaging and highly inspirational. The exceptional high standards and enthusiasm of the staff and pupils alike during their performances in the recent concert made for a very enjoyable evening’ Mrs J Duckworth
