Natasha

Violin Teacher

Natasha Freedman – Violin
Natasha studied violin at Canterbury Christ Church University as part of her BA (Hons) degree in Music with Fine and Applied Arts, with Stelios Chatziiosifidis.  Her violin studies began when she was six years old at Infant School and she recognises the value of beginning this instrument at a young age, ensuring that correct technique is taught right from the outset.

Natasha enjoyed her years with the Sutton Music Service, progressing through the wind bands and orchestras and going on tours around Europe. She has a passion for ensemble playing and is currently playing with the first violins in the Epsom Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoys chamber music, and over the years has taken part in many musical theatre productions.

Natasha has experience in conducting junior string groups, of varying stages of experience. She aims to integrate students’ capabilities on the instrument to ensure that each student has a worthwhile experience.

Natasha believes in the value of performance, having benefited herself from frequent opportunities to take part in concerts, both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble, and has performed in venues such as Fairfield Halls, Epsom Playhouse and Dorking Halls.  Performing can be a daunting prospect but Natasha hopes to encourage her students towards it because in so doing, they will be motivated to prepare a piece to the best of their ability and perform it despite possible nervousness, thereby increasing their confidence.

Learning a musical instrument should be a rewarding experience and Natasha aims to make learning fun, whilst leaving her students with a sense of achievement after every lesson. She is interested in a variety of musical genres but her approach to the violin uses mainly classical repertoire.  She has a supportive approach and particularly enjoys working with young violinists and giving them the confidence to progress.  She encourages her pupils to take graded exams as she finds that her pupils progress better through a structured learning approach.  She is however happy to tailor lessons for all ages and abilities, without exams if specifically requested.  Whether the student would like to work towards progressing through exams or to learn as an enjoyable hobby, they will be provided with the appropriate resources to achieve their goals whilst having an enthusiastic teacher to assist them along the way.

Music has been an integral part of Natasha’s life and she is delighted to be able to pass on her musical experience to others.

Natasha holds an enhanced DBS check.
